GRAMMY, Latin GRAMMY, and 2022 SESAC Latina Producer of the Year Award-winning producer, mixer and mastering engineer, Trooko released his new EP BAHIA, across digital platforms via Sony Latin imprint Orianna.
The 3-track project, marking the production moniker of Honduran-born LA-based Jeff Peñalva’s debut on Orianna, is a mix of varied sounds of electronica, including Indie Dance, Afro, Latin, and House, and comes less than a month after Trooko’s latest “Album of the Year” Latin GRAMMY Nomination for his work on DEJA by Bomba Estereo.
“Siempre” - Trooko’s first offering from the EP, begins as a Tropical and Housey escapade of nature and island life, complete with enchanting synths and steel drum shuffles set against the background of birds chirping and calming ocean waves. Trooko then launches the track straight into electronic outer orbit, delivering a joyous and mad psychedelic romp through brightly coloured solar systems and otherly worlds.
The second single “Vamos”, which released together with the EP in November, is an undeniably groovy, feel-good record with a contagious mix of strings, percussion, and vocal effects. Argentine musician and producer Cítrico lends his voice to the production, giving the uplifting track an organic indie vibe. Envisioning a beautiful escape from everyday problems, Cítrico sings, “Quiero despertar en un sueño / Quiero que salgamos corriendo / Vamos de la mano / Que estamos preparados / Vamos escapemos de acá.”
“Amapala” is the third track that came out within BAHIA, quickly building momentum with tribal drums, heady rhythms, and acid squelches, before delivering a euphoric release of anthemic percussion. The producer expertly weaves an intoxicating fusion of tension and satisfaction, taking us through the light and the dark, and then back again.
