The combination of working from home, the pandemic roller coaster, erratic leaders, and the inherent need to be outside connecting with nature has led to seeing more runners about, both in rural areas and big cities. With that said, it is no wonder why running for many throughout these challenging times has become part of the ‘new normal’.

According to Web MD, running has proven to be a simple daily routine that reduces the feelings of stress, anxiety and depression. The immediate future is likely to be anything but ‘normal’. Changes in the way we work, restrictions and challenges on the way we travel, and dealing with global issues have become the rules that determine our lives. We want to help people stay motivated with some tips to consider:
1/ Gear
Invest in a comfortable pair of running shoes that provide the guidance and weather-appropriate clothing - check the weather so you layer right - either with protection from getting wet, keeping you cool and dry, or stopping your core body temperature from dropping. ASICS offer a great selection for whatever your need.
2/ Warm Up
Spend 5 or 10 mins lightly stretching and mobilising the lower back, hips and hamstrings before heading out the door, especially if you’ve been sitting at your home desk all day.
3/ Look for Challenges
The pandemic and colder months has limited races and events. However, apps like Nike Run Club and Strava will help you find challenges and people to compete with.
4/ Load Up a Soundtrack
An uptempo playlist such as Orianna's Noche Beats
or 4 AM Vibra
will provide the soundtrack to keep you moving. Federico Scavo's 'Subele'
is sure to get you moving!
5/ Change It Up
Running the same routes will eventually become boring so explore new locations and build up a mix of distances and terrains to keep it interesting.
Please remember, a simple/casual run can have a positive uplift and will create progress towards a healthy body and mind.
¡Buena Suerte!
